Strength – Peace – Compassion – Yoga

The strength of this practice brings us to a place of enduring peace and fierce compassion.

There is a blessing in being able to come to the mat to move. There is a privilege in taking the time to sit with the breath. There is a fundamental need to sit quietly to calm the mind. This is your safe place.

We come together to practice, laugh and grow in the community that is this space.

We dedicate our practice to the well-being of all beings everywhere.

Classes

At My Yoga Home, our teaching staff love yoga. We acknowledge though that different forms of the practice resonate with different people. Not sure which one will work for you? We will ALWAYS suggest that you come along and try them all but here is an introduction to each practice we offer to help you decide where to start.

Created by Sri K Patthabi Jois, Ashtanga Vinyasa is the basis for modern versions of vinyasa and power yoga. Linking breath, postures and movement, Ashtanga Vinyasa has a set sequence of postures that combine to create an athletic flow of strength, flexibility and stamina. It is a complete practice in and of itself. Ashtanga Led classes are based on the primary series as created by Sri K Patthabi Jois under the tutelage of his teacher T.Krishnamacharya.

Mysore is a teacher assisted, self led approach to practicing the Ashtanga Vinyasa Method. It is suggested that students either attend a beginner’s course or a number of Ashtanga Led classes prior to attending. Students all start at the same place but are invited to progress under the guidance and knowledge of the teacher, who will take into account your mental focus and physical readiness. Students are invited to, within the class time frame, work at their own pace, to arrive as they wish and leave when their practice is complete. Mysore fosters a confident home practice, utilizing the knowledge learned in class. The opening chant will be practiced 15 mins after door opening

Moving with the breath, vinyasa flow is a movement based form of yoga. With interesting transitions and with no class the same, vinyasa flow is for those who wish to come to the mat, let go and move. Depending on the day, the class may be dynamic and strengthening or slower with a focus on mobility and breath. Classes are themed to ensure that practitioners leave feeling that they have moved mindfully with purpose.

Based on practices designed for athletes, Power and Hot Power Yoga are strength based asana practices that are designed to make you step up and transform both your body and mind. Using the fire created by the energy of the practice, hardened thoughts and embedded karma are burned away allowing for greater self love, freedom and compassion. Hot Power has the room heated to 32 degrees so please ensure you hydrate regularly.

Designed with the notion of balance in mind, hatha yoga practice is designed to align the body and spirit in preparation for meditation. A great practice for those who are starting out or returning to the practice, hatha yoga moves slowly between postures, allowing students to focus on technique and sensation. Being the yoga of activity, it is still a strong practice with longer holds and careful sequencing.

Based on a practice created by Simon Low, Golden Seed is a combination of Chi Kung and is he active practice of his own Yin Yang Yog Style. With a beautiful flow, the practice allows students to tap into a true moving spiritual energy of Chi/Prana while working to open the body along both the fascia and meridian lines.

Created by Brian Kest, Long Slow Deep (LSD) this practice was designed to test the body, mind and spirit with a system that fully integrates to find a way to a peaceful and healthy lifestyle. Learn to breathe easier with deeper stretching poses and focused movement. This is a mentally challenging class, asking students to be patient, keep breathing and find your deep fluidity.

Designed to open the fascia and establish somatic connection, this class is a deeply opening class using movement, myofascial release techniques and active release techniques to facilitate permanent change in the body. Various areas are targeted ensuring that the joints are safely supported at the same time that they are able to find freedom in movement. Using latest research to enhance student experience, the class offers both a physical and spiritual pathway to an understanding of our innate natures.

The practice of Yin yoga is designed to stretch the connective tissue through long release holds. It is a passive practice with postures either seated or supine which are typically held between 3 and 7 minutes. There is a heavy focus on props in this practice and students are encouraged to step back from their edges and to humbly let go. Yin yoga as initially created by Paulie Zink but found its way into main stream practice under the guidance of Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers.

The ultimate practice for the busy person. Come along to restorative to take some time out but still know that you are doing something for your body, mind and nervous system. Designed to focus on the breath, long holds and letting go, restorative yoga is a perfect compliment to the more active practices. Building your body a house with props allows this practice to be both supportive and releasing.

Heavily based on the teachings of BKS Iyengar, this practice uses props to allow students to explore their own personal perfect alignment for where they are right now. Gentle and loving, this practice encourages students to find the alignment of the body to guide the alignment of the mind and spirit.
